Miles Cross
A Livejournal "Changeling: The Lost" Game
Halloween Morning @ the Library
31st-Oct-2007 02:16 pm

((OOC: Continued from here: http://community.livejournal.com/milescross/3474.html)

Kit collects what remains of her saving and divies it up, some in the pouch around her neck, some in the hidden pocket in her hat, some in hidden pocket in the collars of the foxes. Next she packs her rucksack with a notebook, pens, cellphone and charger.

Kit pets Nyx and Astraia and leaves them with rawhide bones in the tent, "Be good. Stay here." The flap for the tent has been partially left open so the foxes to go in and out.

She takes her walking stick and small rucksack and heads into town.

First she visits the library with her list of things to look up. She picks a table near the card catalog. The rough night's sleep she had clearly showing in her eyes.

The Professor watches as the Lost girl enters, his one eyebrow cocked in interest. Other than that, the grumpy librarian continues his work behind the information desk.

Kit pulls her notebook out of her back as she looks around the library, pausing in her scan at the sight of another lost soul, ** And behind the info desk... needed to go there anyway. **

Grabbing her bag and taking her notebook and pen in hand she heads off to the info desk. "Hello, I was wondering if you could help me with some research."
2nd-Nov-2007 09:58 pm (UTC) - Edit
His lips twitch in annoyance. "I trust there is some specific area of study you need assistance in?"
3rd-Nov-2007 09:37 pm (UTC) - Re: Edit
Kit frowns, and answers in low voice, lower than most typically use in libraries, "Too start, what would leave a cord of fresh cut wood near my tent, in the middle of the night. And well, myths, folklore, about Hunts. The Wild Hunt."
3rd-Nov-2007 10:29 pm (UTC) - Re: Edit
The Professor leans forward towards her dramatically. In a harsh whisper to match hers, he answers in a sardonic tone. "I don't know. Maybe a lumberjack with a really strange fetish."

He leans back and talks in a more normal librarian-type voice. "First off, why do you think this generous offering of free labor has anything to do with The Wild Hunt? Something which, one might glean from the name, has something to do with hunting. And not daily chores. If that were the case, it would probably be referred to as The Wild Domestic Servants... or The Wild Housecleaners... or the Wild Au Pairs. Take your pick."
4th-Nov-2007 03:29 am (UTC) - Re: Edit
Kit's brows knit with annoyance, but it also cuts through some of her panic, "I doubt the two are related, but it would be better maybe if they were, then I would have one thing to worry about, not two." Kit inhales and looks around, then continues, "I described what I found, after a night of nightmares about being hunted. And while it might be generous, everything kindness from them has catch. My mom said to never look a gift horse in the mouth. I think you should because the horse might have teeth that can chew you into tiny little bits."
4th-Nov-2007 12:20 pm (UTC) - Re: Edit
"Well, Foxy, have you wondered if the dreams were yours?" The Professor shrugs as he writes out something on a scrap sheet of paper. "But if you wish, you'll find a large variety of folklore in this section." He pushes the slip towards her. "For things on the Wild Hunt, you want books regarding Celtic and Germanic mythos, although I doubt this misbeggotten excuse for a library has any of the latter. Not that would be of use to you, anyway. Katherine Brigg's Encyclopedia will give you a brief synopsis on a great deal of Western fae-lore. Its bibliography has many great sources. Many great sources not available to most folks."
4th-Nov-2007 12:47 pm (UTC) - Re: Edit
Kit takes the slip of paper while chewing on her lower lip, "What do you mean about the dreams being mine?"
4th-Nov-2007 05:51 pm (UTC) - Re: Edit
The Professor glowers at her. "Merely a thought. Perhaps something was putting its dreams into you, or using your dreams to communicate. Perhaps it was examining what kind of person you are through your dreams. Or... wait! Perhaps the whole thing is co-incidence!" he gasps sarcastically.

His voice returns to its normal gruffness. "But it's not unheard of for things fae to enter anothers dreams. Much as we are able to enter the dreams of our fetches. Did you not know this... JoAnn MacFadyen?"
4th-Nov-2007 07:13 pm (UTC) - Re: Edit
Kit mutters, "I don't like coincidences..." while mulling over the rest of what the professor has said, "I didn't know, wait what did you call me? How did you know?"
5th-Nov-2007 06:46 am (UTC) - Re: Edit
"Ha," he barks in bitter triumph. "I didn't. You merely confirmed my suspicions. A... younger version of you was in here earlier, asking questions about dreams. My business partner mentioned she would notify you. And now here you are." He wags a finger at her in mock sterness, and he adds a cruel smile. "Have we been tormenting our fetch lately?"

The smile fades and that hated scowl returns. "Because if it hasn't been you in her dreams, then it adds to the mystery. And I hate mysteries, young lady."
5th-Nov-2007 02:01 pm (UTC) - Re: Edit
Kit shakes her head, "She said she saw her, I still don't know what I want to do about her, I want my life back, but I have not done anything, except look for her."
5th-Nov-2007 03:46 pm (UTC) - Re: Edit
This news does not make the old changeling look any happier. "So... it's either what passes for a subconcious tormenting her, or there's a third party involved. Perhaps the same party who is content to do your manual labor." He gives her a leering grin. "Which is understandable."

The lecherous smirk disappears quickly enough. "To find out which... I plan on entering her dreams. Given the decaying minds of today's youth, the prospect does not thrill me."
5th-Nov-2007 08:44 pm (UTC) - Re: Edit
** Men. No matter the age, they still think the same. ** Kit frowns. "What can I do to help? Or offer you for your assistance?"
6th-Nov-2007 06:56 am (UTC) - Re: Edit
The Professor runs his tongue along in the inside of his cheek as he thinks. "As far as what you can offer me... nothing. Save that there might come a time when I ask you to listen to what I have to say. For right now, I already have a bargin with your fetch, and that's enough."

"As for what you can do? I plan on entering her dreams as soon as I can find a guide and bodyguard to watch over me in the Hedge. You might want to come along and at least meet your fetch face to face... so to speak. Also, if there is something to her nightmares, you can see if it's related to your own recent experiences." The Professor snorts. "As I understand it, it will be far easier for you to get into her dreams than it will be for me! But I promised her I would visit her within the week, and I always keep my promises."
